What is crypto paper trading? A beginner's guide

Paper trading lets you practise crypto trading with virtual money. Learn how it works, what it can and cannot teach you, and how to start for free.

Crypto paper trading means you practise trading with virtual money instead of real money. You place real-looking orders, watch them fill, and see your profit or loss, but your savings never move.

You learn how a market works before you risk any of your own money.

Why practise with virtual money first?

Crypto markets move fast. Futures add leverage, funding payments and liquidations. These ideas are hard to learn from a video. They make sense when you see them happen to your own position.

  • Learn the buttons. Market order, limit order, long, short, leverage. Mistakes cost nothing.

  • Feel leverage. See how 10x leverage makes a small price move a big change in your balance.

  • See liquidations. Watch what happens when a position loses too much, without losing real money.

  • Test a strategy. Already trade? Try a new idea on live markets before you use it for real.

Paper trading vs real trading

Paper trading teaches you the mechanics. It does not copy everything about real trading: with real money, fear and greed change how you act. Practice results also do not predict what you will earn with real money, so use paper trading to learn, not as a promise of profit.

How paper trading works in Cryptathon

  • Your practice orders go into a live order book and match against market makers and other players.

  • Prices, fills, funding and liquidations follow the exchange. Your balance is always virtual.

  • No real crypto is bought or sold.

  • Lost your virtual balance? Use the reset and start again.
